Daniel + Carly in the Inca

A breathtaking and utterly romantic elopement in Banff, Canada, featuring our Inca gown.

Wedding location:

Canada – we rented an amazing little cabin at Rocky Mountain Buffalo Ranch (real buffalo included!) outside of Golden, British Columbia. We took two photographers with us because I wanted a ton of photographs to capture the day. We went horseback riding through the forest and alongside a beautiful river, full of amazing photo opportunities. We then got married in the tiny courthouse in the town of Golden. And then drove 2 hours to Moraine Lake to see what all the hype was about. HOLY MOLY was it amazing!!! When we first arrived, the lake just looked like a normal lake, but then we hiked up what seemed like a 5-story building, tons of rocks and very steep. When we got to the top, it was absolutely breathtaking! Everyone there was applauding us and congratulating our marriage. I think people were really surprised that we climbed up in our wedding attire haha. Then lastly, we had dinner at the Lake Louise Heritage Railway Station & Restaurant. The train tracks run right alongside of the restaurant, so when a train passed, our entire room shook! It was so exciting!

How did you decide on your GLL gown and accessories?

I knew I wanted a dress with lace sleeves and a low back. So when I started searching, the Inca popped up and I knew from that moment that it was the dress for me. The dress has so much detail so I didn’t add a whole lot of accessories – pearl earrings and my ring was all I needed! I wore the flower crown for only a few photo shots.

Describe your look in three words…

Enchanting, Intimate, Elegant

How did he propose?

Daniel secretly had the proposal plan for months. We had flown to San Francisco to see my sister and her boyfriend and we went to visit Muir Woods – it had been on my bucket list for a while. We were looking for a photo opt, and then he laid a huge kiss on me and said, “I have a surprise for you” and then he got down on his knee and asked me. When I saw the ring, I was utterly shocked (he had shown me a yellow diamond ring in the jewellery store he worked at and my only thought was “we’ll never be able to afford this!” But he made me try on in store anyhow.) My sister got it all on video. Random passers by started clapping and congratulating us, it was such a fantastic memory.

What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?

We wanted to keep it as secret and intimate as possible – we told NO ONE that we were eloping (we planned for a year). We let everyone know by posting a photo to Facebook. Everyone was so happy for us. We didn’t want a huge wedding or the huge party that went along with it. Marriage is about the love of the couple and I feel like our love was definitely portrayed in our photos. Driving all through the Canadian Rockies was such an adventure!

The funniest moments on the day were…

One of the horses gave me a big smooch when we were taking pictures. Of course I kissed him back!

What was the most stressful part to planning?

The only thing that was “stressful” in any of the planning was that 3 months out I called to confirm my hair and makeup appointment and they told me that they were under new management and didn’t have me in! Luckily it was an easy fix to get me in, but they didn’t do airbrush makeup anymore. So I had to find a traveling makeup artist and pay for her commute – So worth it!
