What is it you loved about your GLL gown and accessories?

I loved how beautiful, comfortable, elegant and free I felt in the Gia gown. I loved the train on the dress because it was long and dramatic, but also so easy to work with and bustle. The pearlescent shimmer on the lace made it look light and pure.

My absolute favourite part of the Gia was seeing my husband’s reaction when he saw me in our first look. He couldn’t get his hands off of me and kept saying how much he loved the dress. My husband twirled me several times to admire me and the dress, and he loved the detail and train.

Did you go to a GLL showroom or purchase your gown online? Tell us about this experience.

About two years ago my friend saw the Verdelle 2.0 wedding dress, and I found out that GLL had an LA showroom. We flew in from San Francisco and had an incredible experience at the GLL showroom. After that experience, I knew that I needed to have a GLL dress for my wedding. My friend ended up buying the Verdelle 2.0 dress, and it was absolutely perfect for her.

When I became engaged, I arranged for my mother and sister to meet me in LA so I could see GLL dresses. Even before I went to the showroom I knew that the Gia was my dress. When we walked in to the Venice Showroom, I was beyond excited. I loved that you greeted us with champagne because I was very nervous and it helped me relax. The first dress I tried on was the GIA and I knew that it was the exact dress I wanted to get married in. I loved feeling like a bride for the first time, how comfortable I felt in the dress, and my mother’s and sister’s reactions. I waited one month before purchasing the Gia but I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Describe your wedding day look…

Simple and earthy

How did he propose?

Greg and I have been together for nine years. I knew I wanted to marry him on our first date, so when he proposed I was over the moon. Greg and I were travelling to Europe for a friend’s wedding in Mallorca and we jokingly decided to call our trip “Euro Trash 2017” because we wanted to hop around party islands in the Mediterranean. We began in Mallorca celebrating our friend’s wedding, went to Ibiza and partied at a few clubs, went to Mykonos and enjoyed sunset beach club vibes every night, and then finished in Santorini, Greece to relax. In Santorini, Greg began to get annoyed over very little things (very unlike him) and then asked me to go on a hike. I refused to go because I didn’t have the right shoes and didn’t want to ruin my sandals. Little did I know, he wanted to propose on the hike. On the third day, we splurged on a nice hotel in Oia to see the spectacular sunset. We spent the day lounging by the pool and later began getting ready for dinner and the sunset. We sat on our deck with a glass of wine and Greg stood up and grabbed my hands and said, “I am going to propose now,” and I said “you are?” And so, he proposed and we celebrated with other hotel guests while watching the most beautiful sunset.

What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?

We had a few goals for the wedding. One goal was to have all the wedding guests staying on the same property to maximize the ability for everyone to interact, whether by the pool, bar, restaurant. We also wanted to celebrate our heritages; since Greg has a strong German heritage our rehearsal dinner was Oktoberfest themed and almost every guest dressed in Lederhosen and Dirndls.  For the wedding day, we had a fantastic mariachi band and many Mexican inspired decorations to give a nod to my heritage. Greg and I love the outdoors, so we wanted a venue that was somewhat remote and surrounded by natural beauty.  We wanted our first look photos to be in a breathtaking natural setting. Lastly, we wanted people to have a blast, so we made sure the bar was stocked and the music was on point. From the mariachi band, to the wedding DJ, to the after hours house music DJ, the dancing never stopped.

The funniest moments on the day were…

There were several funny moments, but one was funny and particularly special.

Whenever a DJ plays Madonna’s song “Vouge,” I make everyone create a catwalk on the dance floor so people can showcase their moves à la Soul Train. People went all out and we were all laughing so hard at the ridiculousness. It was also great seeing our dads walk the catwalk; my dad, Carlos, looked as if he hadn’t missed a step since his disco days, and Greg’s dad, Peter, did a hilarious little shuffle considering his 77 years and hip replacements. Luckily, a few people captured the moment on video because Greg watched it 100 times and enjoyed it for weeks.

What was the most stressful part to planning?

Since we didn’t have a wedding planner I had a difficult time coming up with a theme or colour scheme. I knew that I wanted the wedding to be simple and minimal, but it became stressful to think about decorations and how it would all come together. The day of wedding, I was stunned by how beautiful all the decorations came together.

Any top beauty/health/fitness or wedding preparation advice that you can share…

I worked out several times a week, tried to eat more vegetarian meals, and did a lot of facials. I became obsessed with facial products to make sure I was glowing the day of the wedding. I tend to run more anxious so having my friend meditate with me throughout the wedding weekend helped me stay grounded and present.

A GLL woman is to you…

Effortless, wild, free, and adventurous

Any last advice or words of wisdom that you can share…

I would recommend to any bride to really go with your intuition when making decisions and seeking out vendors. When selecting vendors, have a long chat with them and get a feel for them. Surround yourself with people that you like and are comfortable with. Especially when you are planning a wedding yourself, having great vendors makes all the difference.
