Jesse + Alexis in the Genevieve

An enchanting, rustic wedding, featuring our romantic Genevieve gown.

GLL: Congratulations on your recent wedding, you looked stunning! Tell us how and why you chose your GLL gown?

I knew that the dress needed to fit the scenery. We picked out our venue first and it was  in the Redwoods. I stumbled upon Grace Loves Lace, and I was absolutely in love with their bohemian style. It was tough to choose, but the Genevieve was screaming romantic. The way it fell on my body, the soft mix of fabrics and the sexy peek-a-boo mesh in the front. I felt beautiful, I felt sexy and I knew it was the one.

GLL: So tell us, how did you both meet?

We met randomly on a dating app, called Coffee Meets Bagel, funny enough. Our first date was a bike ride on the beach, and then had drinks, that turned into dinner, and ended up on his rooftop around a fire. Several successful dates later; we knew we had something special going on!

GLL: Was it love at first sight or was it a slow burn kinda situation?

Definitely a slow burn with immediate chemistry and love sprouted organically.

GLL: What first attracted you to your partner?

Immediately, it was his eyes. He had this genuine aura and it was magnetising.

GLL: And the proposal? How did that go down?

I remember having an overall good day, it was a Friday. I got home and we had plans for an evening bike ride. He grabbed his backpack which I thought was really weird but shrugged it off. We rode down to the beach, went up and down the strand and came to a stop. We parked our bikes, and walked down the pier hand in hand. He suggested we sit down on a bench overlooking the water and began talking about the story of us. Before I knew it, he went into his backpack, and squeezed himself between the bench and the fence of the pier. He knelt down on one knee and asked me to be his wife! I was absolutely floored and in disbelief. I had so many questions! One thing he did share, was that we went to the beach because he wanted to replicate our first date.

GLL: How did you feel on your day and how did you style your GLL look?

I remember my mom telling me I was the calmest she had ever seen me (on my wedding day). I did feel really calm and an overall happiness consumed me. I decided to keep my look very simple and minimalistic. I chose to wear my hair down with loose curls, natural make-up, and my mother’s blue earrings. I tied the waist with a blush pink satin ribbon that trailed to the very bottom of the dress adding a romantic element.

GLL: Where did you get inspiration from for your wedding?

We were inspired by the forest, and being outdoors. We wanted a rustic, adventurous, yet romantic vibe and we nailed it!

GLL: Describe your wedding in 3 words…

Enchanting, passionate and dreamy.

GLL: What was your most memorable moment?

We were concerned about it raining during the ceremony, but we got lucky! As soon as the ceremony was over, it began to lightly rain. I was amazed and it felt like nature gave us a gift. We walked in the rain together as husband and wife and it truly was romantic.

GLL: What was your wedding song / playlist?

We didn’t have music – just the sound of the wind through the trees and birds chirping.

GLL: And where are you honeymooning?

France & Italy! Oh la la!

GLL: What did you find the easiest and hardest thing about planning a wedding?

Our wedding was very small and intimate. We stayed patient, and took our time figuring out the details. We made sure to stick to our plans, and that was really tough. It felt like a tug-o-war of emotions. But those that love you, they understand and respect that this is your day.

GLL: Any top tips or advice you can give fellow GLL brides (beauty, health & wellness, planning etc)?

Regardless of how calm I really was, I still had an excited anxiety/nervousness – to tame that, I worked out the morning of my wedding day! I was able to release that energy and felt great too. Also, give yourself plenty of time to get ready, breakfast included – it’s the worst to feel rushed! Most important, be present. The time really does zoom by and its best to relish in the moment and not worry so much about the things that you can’t control. Roll with it best you can!

GLL: Describe your GLL experience…

I went in with zero expectations, just in for the ride. I loved our stylist, Bec – she was easy to get along with, had a great sense of humour and gave genuine feedback. She made our experience so much fun and my mom and sister-in-law enjoyed the champagne and charcuterie! Surprisingly enough, this was the first and only place I tried on wedding dresses. I think that says it all.

GLL: What does marriage mean to you?

Being a team in this crazy life together but never losing sight of your individuality. Respecting and encouraging growth. Also, supporting and loving your partner unconditionally.
