How did you decide on your GLL gown and accessories?

The story of my wedding dress is one of (indirect) love at first sight. In my hunt for wedding inspiration, I came across the GLL Instagram account and fell in love with the GLL style and beautiful photos. I took heaps of screenshots for inspiration. One day I looked back at all of the screenshots I had taken ready to start jotting down ideas and that’s when the pin dropped… almost all of my screenshots were of brides wearing the same stunning dress. It was GLL’s iconic Alexandra gown. It was perfect and it was ‘The One’ for me.

After ordering my gown online, the London Showroom opened so I tried on the Alexandra with the Hera Anklets. They were the perfect pair. My bridesmaids saw me gushing over the anklets and surprised me with them at my bridal shower as a gift.

Describe your look in three words…

Modern, elegant, me.

How did he propose?

We got engaged during a trip to South Africa. The day before my birthday, we decided to hike to the top of Lion’s Head Mountain in Cape Town to catch the South African sunset. When we reached the top, just as the sun was setting, Jonny reached for his backpack and gave me a photo album of our milestones together, which he posed as a birthday gift. The final page had a picture of my gorgeous engagement ring and above it a milestone titled “Our Engagement”. In total shock and excitement, I looked up and saw my incredible and loving husband down on one knee holding the ring from the photograph. I cried (a lot) and then managed to squeal the word “YES!” It was the second greatest day of my life (the first now being our wedding day) and he had captured it all on camera so that we have a lifetime memory.

What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?

Our goal for our wedding day was for it to be a day to remember, not only for ourselves but for our family and friends too. The most important aspect was for our outdoor summer wedding to be fun so we organized entertainment throughout the day.

The funniest moments on the day were…

The sermon during our wedding ceremony, my mum’s speech, and me forgetting a sequence in our choreographed first dance and nearly ruining the big finale.

What was the most stressful part to planning?

We planned, booked and set up mostly everything ourselves, which was no walk in the park but I would have to say that the most stressful part to planning was our guest list. We both come from large families so sticking to the venue limit was tough.

Any top beauty/health/fitness or wedding preparation advice that you can share…

It’s an unconventional tip but planning a wedding can be a rollercoaster but health needn’t be. Jonny and I used raw apple cider vinegar daily in our food and drink and our health was never better. For #GLLBrides looking to get wedding dress ready, have energy, glowing skin or simply avoid illness in the run up to the big day, apple cider vinegar is the one product that truly kept us going. I was up till 5am on our wedding day decorating the venue so trust me, the stuff works!

A GLL woman is to you…

Strong, wild and free. Beautiful on the inside and out.

Any last advice or words of wisdom that you can share…

If you decide to plan your own wedding, make use of the people around you. Doing it solo is challenging especially when balancing everyday life, so share your vision with those you can rely on and you’ll find you have more time to focus on what’s most important – you and your number one, becoming one.
