What is it you loved about your GLL gown and accessories?

I loved how each dress is so unique. The Paloma was such a “me” dress. My style is very boho/simple/surfer type so when I tried on this gown my friends jaws dropped in excitement that it had my name written ALL over it. The Amilla earrings made the dress so unique and fun!

Did you go to a GLL showroom or purchase your gown online? Tell us about this experience.

Yes! My mom is one of the funnest people ever so she packed up the car and had me call my 5 best friends and we made a weekend up to LA from San Diego! We got a fun hotel room, walked the streets of Venice, and made it an experience I won’t ever forget. When all of us arrived at the showroom, the stylists welcomed us as if we were family! We had so much fun dancing around trying on all the beautiful dresses. The key to it all was that my best friends were right by my side, more excited than I was! We laughed, we cried, and we danced! The Paloma was the dress I came for, so I knew right away what I wanted, but all the dresses were to die for. The Paloma just took our breath away. The faces of my mom and my girls when I walked out of the dressing room was priceless, I’ll never forget that moment and the weekend visit. It was better than Disneyland!

Describe your wedding day look…

Our wedding day look was very unique to us. We are a surfer couple from Ocean Beach that travel the coast in our old school van, so I wanted to make sure it was our style. Bohemian, surfer, 70’s, yet in a modern rustic barn. It was SO rad!

How did he propose?

Kye proposed the day after he graduated from Cal Poly (we did long distance for 3 years and were so ready for this day). He did it on the sand dunes in San Luis Obispo, he prepared this day for a very long time and executed it perfectly (he’s such a romantic). He drove me to the sand dunes for his “graduation photos with his roommates.” When we arrived all I could see was a huge hill of sand on the ocean, he walked me up it and to my surprise there was a huge wooden installation with 100’s of photos hanging up of us. I was speechless. He handed me a letter he wrote me and I just remember being speechless. He was bawling, I was bawling. I saw my friend in the bush taking photos and knew it was real. After we looked at all the photos, he whistled and all of our best family and friends started running up from the other side of the dunes. They all flew out for our special day. It was the most beautiful thing, the most fun thing, the most incredible thing. I still think about it almost everyday ha.

What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?

Our goal for our wedding was to really just make it a day of celebration while being really real and authentic to who we are. We invested so much into our relationship and it was so cool to see the Lord author our story. Our faith is the foundation of our relationship so we wanted to make sure we kept it centred on what the true meaning of marriage was. When it came to our vows, taking communion, and just keeping it centeed on Christ, we didn’t hold back. We know that everyone at our wedding will keep us accountable and be our backbone through our marriage. Having people that love and believe in your relationship is so important. We feel extremely blessed by the people around us, so our goal over all was that people knew how loved they were by us, and to celebrate and breath in every moment of the day.

The funniest moments on the day were…

OUR DANCE FLOOR WAS INSANE. I’m dying laughing just thinking about it. Kye and I are young, so our wedding was a very young aged wedding. From the first song that came on, to the last song that came on, the whole floor was going crazy. Men’s shirts were coming off, ties around our heads, sweat was flying everywhere, Kye and I were being thrown in the air every other song, dance circles were constant. I don’t think Kye and I left the dance floor once. The main thing we hear from others about our wedding is “that was the most insane dance floor I have ever experienced before, we wish it never ended.” I wish I could relive that dance floor over and over again. I think I’m still sore from doing the worm in my Paloma dress (it is brown now)…

What was the most stressful part to planning?

I don’t tend to get too stressed. With my Wedding Planner (Details Darling) and my Mom, we were such a great team. I guess the most stressful part is that we had a BIG wedding, so the RSVP’s and the seating was a hard puzzle to piece together. Also, I had such a vision for this day, so letting go of comparison and expectation is huge. Just sticking to who Kye and I are as a couple really kept me on track when it came to planning and what I did and didn’t want. The little things tend to be the most tedious when it comes to planning a wedding.

Any top beauty/health/fitness or wedding preparation advice that you can share…

I don’t know much about top beauty but health/ fitness is HUGE to me. I teach boot camp classes, surf, and play/coach sand volleyball so my lifestyle is very active. My advice would be to exercise daily, even if it is just a 30 min walk, find friends to do it with you! (I made my bachelorette party take a spin class with me). Also, the morning of my wedding, upstairs in our get ready room in our robes, I ran a full boot camp workout with my bridesmaids (it was one of the best moments ever). Just try to wake up early, and take time to yourself. The engagement season is such a rad season, take time to breath it in. It was a busy season but I wanted to make time for my friends, my health, and Kye. Kye and I intentionally took time each week to surf and just be together. Preparing our future through premarital counselling and meditating on what it looks like to serve each other and love each other well!

A GLL woman is to you…

A GLL woman to me is one that knows her worth. A woman that doesn’t compare who she is to those around her. She’s intelligent and brave. She’s resilient and extraordinary. Not that she isn’t pretty or has great hair, but she is so much more than that.

Any last advice or words of wisdom that you can share…

I was never one to imagine my wedding day. I didn’t know what dress I would wear or what colour flowers I wanted. Looking back on those decisions, they didn’t really matter all that much to us. Our friends and family are what matter to us. They are our bread and butter. They make us who we are. I had to remind myself that all of our people were there in one place, celebrating us, and nothing else mattered. The details didn’t matter, the colour of the flowers didn’t matter, where people sat didn’t matter. What matters was that I got to marry my best friend. I got to look into his humble eyes and alive grin and know the man on the other end of our love is as kind, gentle, and humble as him. Not only that, but we got to have a huge party to celebrate it with ALL our favourite people. THAT is what matters. My advice would be to find out what is most important to who you are as a couple, write a missions statement and know what you’re priorities are together, and hold loosely to the rest.

Our missions statement:

“To have a marriage that constantly upholds the Lord as the foundation and centre of our relationship, while also living a life of abundance through humility, teamwork, community, encouragement, and adventure!”
