What is it you loved about your GLL gown and accessories?

I loved how easy and comfortable my Everly gown was to wear. The fabric was stretchy and hugged me in all the right places, I loved how my body looked in the fitted dress. The fishtail style skirt was very flattering on my curves. The gown was easy to walk in with the smaller train and I got so many compliments on the day that It was very ‘me’.

Did you go to a GLL showroom or purchase your gown online? Tell us about this experience.

I’ve followed GLL for as long as I can remember and always knew I wanted to be a GLL bride. I am lucky enough to live close to the Gold Coast, so naturally I attended their stunning showroom. The whole experience was easy and enjoyable. The girls who work there are experts at their jobs, and the two times I visited I felt welcome, special and beautiful. I mean who wouldn’t feel that way while trying on some of the gorgeous gowns they have to offer!?

 Describe your wedding day look…

I decided to keep it simple with my hair and makeup and accessories so as to let the dress do the talking.  I wore the Lyra earrings from Grace loves Lace, you can’t go wrong with a pearl earring! I also wore two bangles personally engraved by Brock Bangles and my veil was from JJ’s House. I had my hair out in simple waves and went for a more natural make up look, which my friend Clare from The Future Mrs absolutely nailed!

How did he propose?

Luke and I were visiting my family down on the South Coast of New South Wales, only a few months after my Dad sadly passed away. After a lovely brunch at one of our favourite vegetarian café’s, Pilgrims, Luke wanted to go for a walk on the beach. I remember saying that I would rather go to the local pub to play a game of pool, but Luke was adamant that we had to go for a walk on the beach while it wasn’t raining.

If I’m honest, I wasn’t overly keen, so I thought we could go for a walk on the beach right next to the Huskisson Pub so we could come back and play a game of pool. At the last minute I changed my mind and decided to take him to this beach he had not been to, and funnily enough this same beach is where I have a beautiful memory of Dad and I not too long before he passed away where watched a sailing competition together.

I’ll never forget that afternoon. The sun came out for us, there was no wind, we had the whole beach to ourselves, the bay looked stunning, and I remember feeling so in love with Luke at that moment. I felt happy, and he looked gorgeous. We were walking on the beach and he started playing some music. He then stopped to give me one of his massive hugs and as he pulled away he told me how much he loved me, and how he realized that after all we had been through recently he never wanted to let me go. He dropped down on his knee and I had no idea that this was what was happening. I remember asking him if this was a joke. I think in that moment I was the happiest I could have ever been, especially after such a hard year. The man of my dreams wanted to spend the rest of his life with me!

The most special thing about this moment was that no one knew (except my two close girlfriends who helped with ring advice). He didn’t tell any of our family or close friends and it was such a beautiful moment being able to call them shortly after and surprise them all.  We spent the whole weekend celebrating with our family on the South Coast.

What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?

The goal for our wedding was for it to simply be a big party with all our loved ones, a fun, relaxed and intimate celebration of our love with those who matter most to us.

We wanted everyone to enjoy themselves, but we also wanted to do things our own way. We had no bridal party, we didn’t do wedding favours, we had really simple decorations, and we didn’t have a guest book or a photo booth or lawn games. We found that these details didn’t mean a lot to us so we just decided to simply go without! We also forgot to do the garter and bouquet toss, and cut our wedding cake! WHOOPS! We were just having too much fun on the night. That’s a piece of advice I can offer, you don’t need to have all those wedding traditions if you don’t want to, your wedding can be done your own unique way and trust me, none of your guests will mind.

The funniest moments on the day were…

Probably getting photo bombed by our neighbour’s dog during our couple wedding pictures. Squid the dog got a special invite to our wedding because we love her so much. She has a cheeky personality and tends to run away from her parents from time to time. I remember we were just about to wrap up shooting with our Photographer Chantel and Videographer Joey, and in the distance we saw Squid running full speed at us from down the road, covered in mud. Our neighbour, Tom, was trailing behind in an attempt to catch her. Squid adores me, so she ran straight for me, mud and all. We were laughing so much. Joey our videographer was quick to snap this picture of it all going down, and it’s one of my favourite pictures of the day.

Another funny moment was towards the end of the night when I saw my Hubby ripping it up on the dance floor with his shirt completely unbuttoned; hair out and wild, all sweaty and getting down to ‘sexual healing’. Everyone was laughing. We’ve never seen him so happy.

What was the most stressful part to planning?

I don’t think the planning was as stressful as I thought it was going to be because we had such good advice and help from our friends. I actually found the most stressful part was the week before the wedding when our family members started to arrive, and juggling all that goes with family get-togethers along with all those emotions and trying to finalise last minute details. Definitely made me feel a tad more stressed in those final few days.

Any top beauty/health/fitness or wedding preparation advice that you can share…

Definitely invest in a photographer and videographer for you wedding. My Husband wasn’t overly keen on having a videographer, and we were going to get some close friends to take some snaps of us during the ceremony instead of hiring a professional. We changed our minds last minute and I am so glad that we did. Having those photos and a video of the day to look back on was one of the best investments we made for our wedding.

A GLL woman is to you…

Unique, playful, confident. A woman who knows what she wants.

Any last advice or words of wisdom that you can share…

I have two pieces of advice I can share. The first is that while you’re standing up at the altar, make sure you take the time to look around at your guests. I did this frequently throughout our ceremony, and not only did it make me feel less nervous standing up in front of so many people, it allows you to stop and really take that moment in, as it goes by so quickly.

My second piece of advice is to make sure you take the time to not only sit down and eat, but to actually enjoy the food! The one thing I regret is not being able to fully enjoy our amazing grazing platter or pizzas. You spend a long time planning your wedding so you want to be able to enjoy it (particularly the food!) as much as your guests do!
