How did you decide on your GLL gown and accessories?
I was quite laid back about the whole wedding dress thing, because I knew I wanted something understated but elegant – I actually had a completely different dress all along, and then it had a massive malfunction on the week of our wedding! I spotted the Florence dress online the next day, fell in love with it and just assumed it would fit me – so I called up GLL girls and Yana made sure it was packaged and was sent ASAP off to the other side of the country to me. She literally called around to various management at Australia Post to ensure it would arrive to me on time, after the postage company said it was unlikely to arrive before the weekend. GLL truly went above and beyond, and my dress arrived at 4pm the night before our wedding, and because of the nature of the dress being a lightweight, flowing two piece, it fit like a dream – I loved it the minute I put it on. My style is very minimalist and natural, so I kept everything true to that. I changed into the Cyd skirt for dinner, which was so fun.
Describe your look in three words…
Relaxed, ethereal, natural.
What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?
I was just happy to marry my best friend and had little interest in holding a big event. I am a medical student, so I had very little time to plan, or even do things like dress shopping anyway. It turns out I had some huge barrier exams the same week we decided on our wedding, so it was really important for me to focus on that – needless to say, that didn’t go according to plan! We tried to keep everything low key and relaxed – we even held the reception in our backyard and did the food and wedding cake from home. We ditched the idea of a bridal table, so dinner just felt like we were hanging out with our favourite people and laughing way too much!
The funniest moments on the day were…
Michael and I pretended that we were totally okay with having our picture taken all day! We just pretended it wasn’t happening! Luckily, our Photographer Liz was amazing and let us be completely natural the whole day, and caught all those beautiful, candid moments. Also, seeing the look on my mother-in-law’s face when she saw me walk down the aisle in a completely different dress – so fun!
What was the most stressful part to planning?
I think when it comes down to it, everyone instinctively already knows what they want for their wedding- for us, we just wanted to skip the expectations and sign on the dotted line. The testing part was staying true to that, and not letting other expectations get in the way. Also, studying for my final exams while all my loved ones were flying in from around the country, was a real test of my self control!
