How did you decide on your GLL gown and accessories?

For years I’ve dreamed of wearing a GLL gown. I loved the Genevieve and Inca styles, as well, but as soon as I tried on the Soho, I knew it was the one. The deep V-neck, geometric lace, open back, and gorgeous – but still manageable – train sealed the deal! Since we were planning to hike and explore for portraits, I wanted to feel comfortable; the Soho has just the right amount of stretch and flexibility.

Describe your look in three words…

Minimal, Modern & Intimate.

How did he propose?

We were on a day date in Saint Petersburg, FL. After a visit to Bandit Coffee, Patrick suggested going to Haslam’s Bookstore down the road. We both find immense value in reading and always find used bookstores to peruse whenever we travel. We were reading the backs of philosophy books to each other, as usual – and while everything seemed normal to me, Patrick was actually clutching the ring in his fist and waiting for other shoppers to clear the area. “So are you going to buy those two books?” “I don’t know yet, I’m still deciding… but I want to ask you something first” and down on one knee he went.

What was your goal for your wedding / what was the most important aspect to you?

Above everything, we wanted it to be true to who we are. We wrote the ceremony with my dad who officiated, wrote our own vows, had breakfast and coffee together in the morning, and spent a few days at the Airbnb beforehand with our families. We examined each tradition and only included it if we found it fitting. We’re both so happy with how intimate and intentional it ended up being!

The funniest moments on the day were…

In a “laugh instead of cry” sort of funny… a winter storm literally called a “bomb cyclone” was hitting the east coast of the US on our exact wedding date. Most of the days that week were cold, but bearable (for us Florida folks) – but Thursday had 20+ mph winds that made it feel like 4 degrees outside! We decided to do the ceremony inside the Airbnb and venture into the cold just for portraits. The Blue Ridge Parkway was closed due to the weather, so India, Jay, Patrick, and I drove up to the roadblocks, hopped out of the truck and took photos as long as we could stand it! We had to keep jumping in and out of the vehicle just to thaw out!

What was the most stressful part to planning?

The planning was ultimately stress free! Even though we technically eloped, a lot of time still went into preparing everything, and I’m so grateful for everyone that helped and took the time to travel and celebrate with us.

Any top beauty/health/fitness or wedding preparation advice that you can share…

We got married right after Christmas and New Years, so we tried our very best to feast in moderation. We both exercised more than normal leading up to the wedding, but ultimately…remember that it doesn’t matter if you’re 10 pounds lighter or heavier; just focus on what really matters – you’re marrying your best friend!

A GLL woman is to you…

A balance of elegance and edge.

Any last advice or words of wisdom that you can share…

Eloping isn’t for everyone, but I think it’s important to approach your wedding day planning with a clear idea of what you want to focus on and prioritize – then follow through! Don’t get caught up in the Pinterest boards, bridal magazines, and Knot articles. Those can be great inspiration and guidance, but you don’t have to have all of those elements or details!
