How It All Began: New year’s eve 2012/13. We were backpacking in Byron Bay (separately) with our friends. Everywhere was booked out. So we all ended up in a car park in our separate campers. They surfed. We surfed. They skated. We skated. I was about to join the army. He was in the army. So instead of joining, I packed up home in Adelaide and moved up to Townsville, (where he was living) one month later. We were engaged two months later.

Their Engagement Story:  As soon as I moved to Townsville he was sent to Melbourne for an army course for three months. We saved all our money and he flew me down for the weekend. He pulls out a bag of burger rings and got down on one knee. The story goes- we had no money so I said, “I don’t need diamonds, you could propose to me with a burger ring”. Viola. (The diamonds came later).

What first drew you to Jono?  We were both happiest with nothing but our friends and Mother Nature. We both wore no shoes, were sporting the same dark summer tan and shared the same love for the ocean.

Inspiration: The ocean. Everything I love is by the sea so I incorporated as much wood, textures and anything white I could get my hands on.

Event Styling: Splash events delivered the goods. I had picked every individual item and put it all together.

Feature wedding song/ playlist? My exceptionally talented friend/bridesmaid Nicole Cross played the guitar and serenaded us through the ceremony and reception. Our ceremony song was by Angus and Julia Stone- The wedding song.

Honeymoon Details: Well what’s a wedding without some drama? Two weeks before the wedding Jono went in for simple knee surgery after recently coming home from Afghanistan. The surgery didn’t go to plan and he was rushed to theatre a week before the wedding. He got out of hospital the day before the big day. Thus meaning we had to cancel our honeymoon to South America as it was based around trekking Machu Pichu.

Sarah’s Most Memorable Moment: What made the wedding so incredible was that Jono was there, with all his limbs. Nothing else mattered.

Sarah’s Advice For Future Brides: Don’t sweat the small stuff. No matter how much planning you put into your wedding day, the moment you see your groom at the end of that isle, everything else disappears. Have fun, and take it all in. People say your wedding day will be the greatest day of your life…and it really is beyond anything you can imagine.
